I have a challenge for TransCanada

23 Aug

TransCanada boasts about their “environmental stewardship” on their website. I will not deny or denigrate TC’s efforts in this area, except to say this: put your money where your mouth is. That is to say, don’t brag about how you try to conserve some wetlands and sponsor research on grizzly bears (adorable, really), then push for the construction of a pipeline that is completely unnecessary. TC (my loving nickname for TransCanada) claims that our demand for oil warrants the XL. Research would say otherwise. We’re not even using the oil from Keystone 1 yet. Heck, we’re not even guaranteed the oil from either pipeline.

TC, I don’t know about you, but I see stewardship as truly caring of, and taking responsibility for, someone or something. You are not stewards of the environment. You will be considered stewards when you stop pimping out this pipeline to the people of Nebraska. You will be considered stewards when the health and safety of people comes before the wants and needs of your company. You will be considered stewards when the safety of our water is put above the construction of your pipeline.

So, TransCanada, are you up for the challenge?
